Guwahati: Bharat Bora turned Teporchali Bam village in Moran into a safe haven for endangered hornbills. He spent 28 years rescuing, treating, and releasing birds. He acts alone. When word of an injured bird reaches him, he rushes to the scene and covers all medical costs personally.
Bora treated over 100 birds, including owls and hornbills, before returning them to the wild. The Khowang Regional Forest Office trusts him with their rescue operations. They currently have him caring for two injured hornbills. Researchers and tourists now travel from across India and abroad to study his work.
Local youth help Bora keep the habitat secure. Their efforts turned the area into a recognized Hornbill Village. This model shows how community action saves wildlife in upper Assam. Regarding his decades of work, Bora said, "It is our duty to protect the wildlife. If we don't think for the birds then who will think for them. For last 28 years, I am doing it and today I am very much happy that people are coming forward to save the nature."
