Guwahati: The Assam Premier League will start on August 1 as planned. Matches will run through August 23. BCCI Joint Secretary Devajit Lon Saikia confirmed the timeline despite the state reeling from recent floods. He praised the Assam Cricket Association for finishing tournament preparations.
Saikia issued a strict directive to organizers regarding the event's atmosphere. He demanded they drop any grand openings or entertainment shows while the region suffers. "I congratulate the Assam Cricket Association for making wonderful arrangements to start the APL tomorrow. My only request is that the ACA should not do it in a very grand way because the present situation in Assam is not conducive to holding entertainment programmes," Saikia stated.
Officials ruled out delays. Shifting the dates is impossible. The domestic cricket calendar packs the schedule from the end of the tournament until May 2027. This window must include the Indian Premier League. "If we do not hold this tournament from tomorrow until August 23, there will be no window available for the next eight months," Saikia explained.
The ACA remains active in relief efforts. They gave Rs 50 lakh to flood victims on July 24. Saikia expects the group to keep helping survivors while hosting the games under these somber conditions.
