Guwahati: Cachar Police arrested two individuals on Friday after seizing a significant haul of illegal narcotics from a mechanised boat on the Barak River. The operation, which took place near Lakhipur, resulted in the recovery of 21 grams of heroin and 10,000 Yaba tablets. Police launched the patrol following intelligence reports suggesting that smugglers were using the river route to transport illicit substances.

The Chief Minister’s Office commended the Cachar police for their successful interception and ongoing commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks. Yaba tablets, which are prohibited in India due to their methamphetamine content, were among the contraband seized during the raid. This action follows a broader, intensified campaign by state authorities to curb the flow of drugs across the Northeast corridor, which has recently seen multiple seizures of heroin and other controlled substances.
