Kohima: Aghunaqa Kukami Kuqhakulu (AKK) is calling for a probe after two Assam police officers allegedly harassed a Naga family. The incident took place on July 17 at noon. The family was driving between Naojan and Pulibagan, a stretch known as Highway Tina. Two officers on a scooty flagged them down. Witnesses say the cops appeared drunk.
The situation escalated fast. The officers used abusive language and threatened the family. When a passenger tried to film the encounter, the cops turned hostile. They deleted the footage. They forced the victim to sign a document after writing down his name. The officers threatened to kill them. They claimed Nagas had occupied land in Assam. They also warned they could call people from Sarupathar to burn the family car. The policemen bragged that they could frame innocent citizens and throw them in jail.
AKK leaders Kughato Awomi and Hetoi Katy condemned the abuse. They stated, "no law enforcement personnel had the right to intimidate, threaten or humiliate citizens regardless of their community or place of origin." The group wants the Assam government to ID the two men and launch a legal crackdown. They urged Nagaland and Assam officials to protect travelers in the border regions to keep the peace.
