Guwahati: Assam Finance Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah cut the ribbon on the Kalamati Wildlife Range Office on the evening of August 7. The facility sits inside the Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary in Sonitpur. It is a win for local field operations. The new building aims to tighten forest administration and improve how authorities protect the local ecosystem.

Sonai Rupai serves as a vital biodiversity hotspot for the state. It provides a critical habitat for the White-winged Wood Duck, which holds the title of Assam's state bird. Officials expect the construction to support the forest personnel working on the ground.

The move represents a strategic push to bolster infrastructure for conservation efforts across the region. Baruah stated the inauguration marks "another step towards strengthening infrastructure for wildlife protection and conservation in the region, while supporting the efforts of forest personnel working at the field level."
