Assam Man Critically Injured in Vigilante Attack Near Border

Guwahati: Tensions remain high in the Swadir Khal area of Assam's Cachar district after a young man was violently assaulted by a group of vigilantes. The victim, Hussain Ahmed, was traveling from Saidpur to Gumra on Sunday night when he was intercepted near a bridge by individuals who mistook him for a Bangladeshi infiltrator.

The attackers subjected Ahmed to a brutal beating, leaving him unconscious by the roadside. Local residents intervened to rescue the victim and transported him to Kalain Hospital. Due to the severity of his condition, he was later transferred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital where he remains in critical care.

Police have launched an active investigation to track down those responsible for the assault. Local authorities have called for calm as residents demand strict action against the perpetrators. Hospital staff confirmed the victim is fighting for his life, stating, "the victim remains in critical condition and is battling for his life at the medical college."
