Guwahati: A 32-year-old man was arrested in Dibrugarh after allegedly attempting to murder his wife by striking her repeatedly with a stone. The suspect, identified as Ajay Gogoi, assaulted 26-year-old Janmoni Gogoi on Monday night near Deuri Path.
Police report that the couple, who resided in a rented home in the Chiring Chapori area, engaged in a heated argument before the attack. The husband allegedly suspected his wife of infidelity, which escalated into physical violence. Eyewitnesses intervened after hearing the victim's cries for help, preventing the assailant from continuing the assault.
The victim sustained critical head injuries and was transported to Assam Medical College and Hospital for urgent care. Following a formal complaint from the victim's family, officers from the Dibrugarh Sadar Police Station took the accused into custody. Police stated that the "accused remains in police custody, and further investigation is underway." Authorities are continuing to process evidence as the legal proceedings begin.
