Guwahati: Urmimala and Snigdha Baruah, a mother and daughter duo from Dibrugarh, Assam, brought a unique flair to the 2026 Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Dressed in custom couture by designer Manish Malhotra, the pair made a significant impact by reinterpreting the traditional ghunghat paired with ornate jewelry.
Snigdha Baruah selected a blush silk ensemble that used the head covering as a ceremonial centerpiece. Urmimala Boruah opted for a midnight violet gown featuring structured, crystalline accents. Their presence at the festival served to increase the visibility of Northeast India on the global stage.
Beyond their fashion appearance, the two used the platform to promote their professional initiative, UMB Pageants. This organization focuses on providing a mentoring space for aspiring talent.
