Guwahati: The Assam State Drivers’ Union is cutting transport costs for a tribute. Drivers will charge minimum fares on September 19 to help mourners reach the Zubeen Kshetra memorial programme for the late singer Zubeen Garg.
Members of the Assam Commercial Drivers’ Association and registered local drivers are backing the move. They want to ensure visitors can reach the site without a struggle. It is a sign of respect for a cultural icon. The union stated, "The arrangement would help ease the difficulties faced by people seeking to attend the memorial programme and pay their respects to the late singer."
Organizers expect crowds from all over Assam to flood the venue. The union is urging attendees to use these cabs to get to the event. Prep work at the site is moving fast as the state prepares to honor his legacy.
