Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture Minister Gabriel D. Wangsu officially launched the Khet Bachao Abhiyan on June 4 at the Tana Hari Fish Farm in Emchi Village. The statewide campaign aims to combat soil degradation, protect agricultural land from monsoon erosion, and counter the environmental damage caused by excessive chemical fertilizer use.
Organized by the District Agriculture Office in Yupia, the event brought together farmers, local leaders, and agricultural officials. Minister Wangsu urged the community to return to traditional, sustainable farming methods such as vermicomposting. He noted that soil conservation is a collective duty, stating, "soil conservation should be viewed as a shared responsibility."
The initiative aligns with a broader nationwide effort led by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare. During the launch, MLA Nabam Vivek highlighted that restoring natural farming practices is essential for securing public health and long-term food safety. Yupia Deputy Commissioner Lobsang Tsering praised the program as a vital step toward agricultural sustainability.
Technical sessions held during the event provided farmers with practical guidance on managing soil health and adopting balanced fertilization techniques. These workshops focused on improving crop productivity while preserving the state's natural resources and ecological balance.
