Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has established four high-level committees to tackle critical issues including illegal infiltration, the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, and the protection of indigenous tribal rights. The panels follow consultative meetings held in late May that brought together government officials, student organizations, and legal experts.
To combat illegal immigration, the government appointed a committee led by Environment and Forests Minister Wangki Lowang. This group will investigate the scope of infiltration and propose stricter border management strategies, such as biometric verification and digital tracking. The panel has six months to submit its recommendations for addressing undocumented settlements and forged identification.
Agriculture and Horticulture Minister Gabriel D Wangsu will head a second committee focused on strengthening the ILP framework. This panel aims to modernize the current permit system by proposing technology-based monitoring and refined categories for tourists and workers. The move follows the chief minister's commitment to ensure a participatory approach to these systemic reforms.
A third committee, chaired by Education Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona, will conduct a re-verification of Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificates. This group will review existing issuance processes and guidelines from 2022 to ensure integrity. Explaining the collaborative nature of the effort, Khandu stated, "The committees were constituted following resolutions adopted during consultative meetings held on May 27 and May 29 under his chairmanship."
