Itanagar: Tawang native Sonam Zomba grabbed the Karma Fight League World Strawweight Championship on July 18. The event took place in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Zomba faced a last-minute shakeup when her match against Pakistan's Bushra Akhtar was scrapped. She secured the title anyway. KFL 8 operates under K-1 rules, which allow punches, kicks, and limited knee strikes while banning grappling and submissions.
Zomba entered the ring with momentum. She already defended her Matrix Fight Night Strawweight title earlier this year. She now stands as a top combat sports athlete in India. The win adds a fresh trophy to her cabinet. She credited her growth to her team at Bidang MMA and Fitness Gym along with coaches and Ayesha Shroff.
The fighter took to social media to address the win. "Thank you everyone for all the love and support. I am truly grateful to KFL for giving me this opportunity. I know my performance wasn't my best, but this victory means a lot to me. I will keep improving, train even harder, and come back stronger. It is an incredible feeling to bring this championship belt home to India," Zomba wrote. She considers this win a starting point for her career.
