Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh government announced the closure of all 15 allegedly unauthorized mosques in the Itanagar Capital Region. Spokesperson Pasang Dorjee Sona confirmed the action on Thursday, stating that the planned 24-hour bandh by the Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Youth Organization (APIYO) is no longer justified.

District authorities had already sealed 12 of the structures, while the final three mosques situated on private land were closed on Wednesday. Officials took these measures due to alleged violations involving registration requirements, building permits, and development clearance protocols.

Regarding the status of the protest, Sona said, "The purpose of the bandh has been achieved." He noted that the organization's primary demands were met and called for the maintenance of public order across the region.

APIYO originally scheduled the 24-hour disruption to begin at 5:00 AM on June 5. Before the closures, the District Magistrate declared the planned demonstration illegal by citing a Supreme Court ruling and invoking Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
