Imphal: A 24-year-old resident of L. Phainom village in Manipur is recovering after medical personnel from the 2nd Battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (2 JAK LI) provided emergency intervention for a severe animal bite. The victim, identified as Voineo, was bitten by a slow loris around 9:45 PM on Wednesday.

Following the encounter, the man suffered from anaphylaxis, a dangerous allergic reaction characterized by facial swelling, vomiting, dizziness, and difficulty breathing. Villagers alerted the army's medical quick reaction team, which arrived on the scene and stabilized the patient with immediate medication. His condition improved significantly, and he was later transferred to the District Hospital in Churachandpur for continued observation.

The slow loris is an endangered primate and the only venomous species of its kind in the world. Villagers reportedly killed the animal during the incident under the belief it was a threat, not realizing the creature is a protected species. Authorities are now calling for greater public awareness regarding the animal and have urged local residents to report any future sightings to officials rather than engaging with the primates.
