11 Houses Burnt in Sempat Naga Village Attack, Nungba Body Alleges Kuki Militant Groups Behind Arson

Imphal: An armed attack on the afternoon of July 3 left at least eleven houses in flames in Sempat Rongmei Naga Village in Nungba Sub-Division of Noney District in Manipur, a statement by the Nungba Area Village Authority Association (NAVAA) said.

Armed assailants reportedly arrived at the scene around 4:00 PM on Thursday and set fire to the houses leaving families displaced and the community in shock.

In a statement dated July 4, 2026, NAVAA strongly condemned the attack on Sempat Naga Village, saying that the attackers were “Kuki refugee groups and armed militants” and specifically named the United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA) and the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) as the groups allegedly responsible.

The association called the burning of the village a “deliberate act to inflame communal tensions” in the already volatile region. It urged the law enforcement agencies to take immediate action and impose law and order and ensure safety of the residents of the area.

NAVAA reaffirmed its commitment to “peace, justice, and unity” and extended its solidarity and prayers to the families affected by the arson.

Story in development: NEWire will continue to monitor Sempat and the Nungba area more generally. More details are awaited on casualties, displacement and the official law enforcement response. We will update this report as more information becomes available.
