Guwahati: A Yale University scholar finished a two-month research stint at the Assam State Archives this week. He skipped the standard goodbye. Instead, he handed the staff a hand-drawn card featuring a note written in Assamese.
The researcher arrived in June 2026. He spent his time in Guwahati studying the Northeast region's colonial history, local communities, and social evolution. He learned the local language during his residency to show his appreciation for the culture and the institution. Officials at the facility called the gesture a rare, memorable event in a place that hosts students from across the globe daily.
"Research scholars come here almost every day, complete their work and return to their universities. While every visit is important, some leave behind memories that stay with us forever," an official said. The staff viewed the note as proof that the archives function as hubs for connecting people and cultures across borders.
The Assam State Archives remains a key destination for academics studying the history and administration of the region. Administrators wished the scholar well in his future studies and pledged to keep protecting the state's documentary heritage.
