Kohima: Communities across Wokha district observed World Environment Day on June 5 with extensive tree planting and cleanliness initiatives. The Renchen Women Welfare Society led the effort in partnership with the Wokha Town Council and the Lotha Youth Hoho to boost the region’s green cover.
Participants planted ornamental and shade trees at various locations, including the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Tsumang Lake, and several local schools such as Bailey Baptist College and Mount Tiyi College. The Forest Department supplied the saplings, which were placed in designated areas to ensure the plants receive ongoing maintenance and care.
Renchen Women Welfare Society President Liboni Humtsoe spoke to the volunteers about the vital link between a healthy environment and community prosperity. She urged residents to take personal ownership of the new saplings to ensure their long-term survival. Emphasizing the need for unified action, Humtsoe stated, "Environmental protection is a collective responsibility and encouraged citizens to actively participate in efforts that promote a greener and cleaner future."
