Guwahati: A wild elephant took over the Bogidhala playground in Numaligarh, Golaghat district, turning a standard pitch into an impromptu stadium. The animal wandered onto the grass and nudged a football repeatedly, appearing to kick the ball across the field. Onlookers recorded the spectacle on their phones while children stayed nearby.
Video of the encounter spread quickly online. This behavior marks a strange departure from typical human-elephant conflicts in Assam. The state hosts a large population of wild Asian elephants that frequently enter human settlements or farms to find food and water. These interactions often turn dangerous.
The incident follows a separate, difficult case in the same Golaghat district where forest department workers spent hours freeing an elephant trapped by a tractor tyre around its neck. The calm nature of this latest scene surprised many, as the massive animal showed a clear interest in the game. Witnesses described the scene as a "memorable scene at the Bogidhala playground."
