Guwahati: Shafikul Islam died Tuesday after a wild buffalo gored him near the Burachapori Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam. The animal strayed from the sanctuary and ambushed Islam while he worked in a local jute field. Nagaon district officials confirmed the attack occurred on a river island.
The beast left the man with severe injuries and massive blood loss. The region lacks decent transport. Locals scrambled to build a makeshift stretcher to carry the victim. They hauled him a long distance before finding a vehicle to drive toward the hospital.
Help arrived too late. Islam died during the transit, succumbing to the trauma of his wounds. The Forest Department and police have opened an investigation. They are currently looking into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
