West Tripura Official Urges Families to Lead Anti-Drug Drive

Agartala: Biswajit Shil, acting Sabhadhipati of the West Tripura Zilla Parishad, rallied for a grassroots war on narcotics this Saturday. He spoke at Sakhicharan School following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual kickoff of the nationwide Nesha Mukta Sankalpa Abhiyan. The initiative seeks to build a drug-free society as part of the broader national mission for a developed India by 2047.

Substance abuse threatens current growth. Shil noted that the Centre and the Tripura government are working together to fight this addiction. He pointed to Chief Minister Manik Saha, who has pushed for a stronger Tripura by that same 2047 deadline. Still, the drug trade ensnares too many local youth.

Shil called for a sustained, public-led movement to save those already caught in the cycle and to shield children from future harm. "To achieve the goal of a Nesha Mukta Tripura, we should start from our home," Shil said. He insisted that the fight against drugs must gain momentum in the household before spreading through the community. According to the official, this layered approach is the only way to effectively clear out the menace.
