Agartala: West Tripura district officials and local police conducted a major enforcement operation at Battala Market on Monday evening to combat the illegal sale of liquor and narcotics. The surprise raid resulted in the detention of a young man allegedly caught selling brown sugar and small containers of intoxicants known locally as kouta near the Old Hawkers Market.

District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar and Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak personally led the joint task force, which included SDPO D.P. Ray and West Agartala Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rana Chatterjee. The team focused on clearing unauthorized liquor outlets and curbing the distribution of illicit drugs within residential areas.

Addressing the operation, Dr. Vishal Kumar emphasized the danger these activities pose to the community. He stated, "Such activities pose a serious threat to the younger generation and cannot be tolerated." The administration confirmed that efforts to protect local youth from addiction remain a top priority.

Superintendent Pathak indicated that this raid marks the beginning of a sustained effort to dismantle local drug trade networks. Area residents expressed support for the crackdown, hopeful that consistent police presence will improve public safety and reduce substance abuse across the region.
