Kohima: The Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland State Branch organized a Walk for Humanity in Kohima on Friday, May 8, to observe World Red Cross Day. The event brought together a diverse group of participants, including children, youth, and elderly citizens, who gathered to honor the principles of unity, compassion, and humanitarian service.
Spanning over two kilometers, the procession began at the Red Cross Complex and concluded at the Old NST. The initiative aligned with this year’s global theme, United in Humanity, which aims to encourage social responsibility and reinforce the significance of humanitarian values within the community.
During the event, speaker Tseilhoutuo Rhutso urged the youth to incorporate the spirit of humanity into their everyday actions. He reminded the audience of the legacy of Henry Dunant, emphasizing that true humanitarian service is universal and independent of race, religion, or age, rooted instead in empathy.
The program also featured a reading of the official message from the Secretary General of the Indian Red Cross Society. This address highlighted the organization's ongoing commitment to critical services such as disaster response, healthcare, blood donation campaigns, and first-aid training. The walk concluded with a collective call for citizens to embrace their shared responsibility toward one another and continue serving the community.
