UPPL Official Accuses Former BTC Executive Member of Family Harassment

Guwahati: Snigdha Basumatary, the Central Secretary of the United People's Party Liberal women's wing, has publicly accused her in-laws of subjecting her to consistent mental and physical abuse. Basumatary, who is the daughter-in-law of former Bodoland Territorial Council Executive Member Reo Reao Narzihary, detailed the allegations during a press conference in Gossaigaon on May 30.

Basumatary claims that since her marriage, she has faced intense pressure from her father-in-law, mother-in-law, and other relatives. She alleges that these family members are actively attempting to sabotage her marriage by creating a rift between her and her husband. According to her account, the in-laws have prevented her from living a normal life and have employed various psychological tactics to cause her distress. She also reported a specific instance of physical abuse involving her mother-in-law.

Despite these tensions, Basumatary stated her desire to maintain her marriage and continue living with her husband. The accusations have stirred significant concern among local residents in Gossaigaon. As of now, Reo Reao Narzihary and his family members have not provided an official response to the claims. Authorities are expected to monitor the situation as public discourse surrounding the incident grows.
