Imphal: The United Naga Council is firing back at the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee. They want the 2008 Suspension of Operations agreement with Kuki militants tossed out for good. The Council claims the deal has outlived its purpose.

Tensions remain high. The group accuses Congress of ignoring Naga stakeholders during a 2016 district shakeup. That move sparked a massive 139-day economic blockade. The Council said the previous government's actions have had “serious consequences” for Manipur.

Talks have stalled. Government officials have met with the Council 13 times since 2017 to resolve these disputes. The last session occurred on January 30, 2025. Now the state sits under President’s Rule, leaving the future of these negotiations in limbo.

The Council wants the Ministry of Home Affairs to step in immediately. They argue that camps linked to the ceasefire agreement sit in sensitive areas. The group is demanding an end to the policy and a return to the table to secure lasting peace.
