Imphal: The United Naga Council wants the 2008 Suspension of Operations agreement scrapped immediately. The apex body also demands the state government roll back the seven districts created in 2016. Tensions remain high. The Council warned that loose talk from the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee only makes the volatile situation worse.

The Naga group claims the 2008 ceasefire failed to bring peace. Armed insurgents still run out of designated camps under the current arrangement. The Council urged the Ministry of Home Affairs to pull the plug on the pact. "The pact has failed to provide a lasting political solution while allowing armed groups to continue operating from designated camps," the UNC stated.

This ceasefire involves the Indian government, the state of Manipur, and Kuki insurgent factions. The UNC maintains that the 2016 district expansion ignored their repeated warnings. That decision sparked a massive 139-day economic blockade across the region. Now, the Council is calling on New Delhi to restart tripartite talks to fix these long-standing issues through direct negotiation.
