Imphal: Police pulled a partially decomposed body from a forest in Parengba Khunthak, Kangpokpi district. The man, aged between 25 and 35, wore blue jeans and a multi-coloured T-shirt. His hands were tied behind his back and his eyes were blindfolded. Foul play is obvious.

New Keithelmanbi officers moved the remains to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal. They will hold the body until July 8. If nobody claims him by then, the state will dispose of the remains. No one has identified the victim yet.

The grisly find adds heat to a boiling region. Across Sadar Hills, the Kuki-Zo community has set up round-the-clock protests at Gamgiphai. They are fighting to clear the Namduilong-Kanglatongbi stretch of National Highway-2. Traffic is currently stalled.

Protesters monitor the road in 24-hour shifts to force the government to move the blockade. They want essential supplies flowing again. Ng Lun Kipgen, spokesperson for the Committee on Tribal Unity, stated that the group is waiting for the state to act. He said: "The ongoing agitation will continue until free and unhindered traffic is restored along the crucial highway."
