Kohima: Ungma Senso Mongdang (USM) officials declared a total freeze on all engagement with NSCN (IM) leaders. The organization will no longer cooperate, engage, or honor any group linked to VS Atem and RH Raising. The September 24 announcement hits hard. VS Atem serves as Deputy Ato Kilonser, while RH Raising acts as Special Emissary to the Collective Leadership.
This fallout stems from comments the duo made on September 16. They questioned the mandate of former Nagaland Chief Minister and Padma Bhushan Dr. SC Jamir regarding the Naga political issue. The USM dismissed these remarks as insulting and provocative. They labeled Jamir a statesman with a recorded history of service to the state. The group explicitly rejected what it called the audacity of non-Nagaland elements interfering in local affairs. The organization stated, "The Naga political issue was not the private property of any individual, faction or armed group."
The USM is pushing back. They promised full resistance against any intimidation of respected Naga leaders. They also pointed to Ungma’s historical weight, citing the 1958 second Naga People’s Convention and the 2025 Forum for Naga Reconciliation meeting hosted in the village. The USM officially endorsed the September 23 ultimatum from the Ao Senden, which demands a retraction of the comments within 15 days.
The USM also took aim at MLA Achumbemo Kikon. They warned him against trading the birthright of a bona fide Nagaland citizen for political mileage. They urged all citizens to ignore divisive politics and defend their common ground. The message is clear. They want unity against outsiders attempting to dictate Nagaland's future.
