Kohima: The Medemsanger Putu Menden (MPM) of Merangkong village slammed NSCN (I-M) leaders VS Atem and RH Raising for recent remarks against former chief minister and governor Dr. SC Jamir. The village body issued a firm statement on October 3 condemning the hostility. They demand respect for free speech.
MPM secretary Temjennungsang argued that Naga custom grants every citizen the right to speak freely. No one holds the authority to strip that right from another person. The group labeled the comments from Atem and Raising divisive and counterproductive. They claim these attacks hinder the current push for reconciliation, peace, and unity among the Naga people.
The organization insists that the inherent rights of all Nagas require protection regardless of their social standing. They want leaders to focus on the collective future. "The time is now ripe to cultivate and harbour goodwill and respect," the MPM stated in their release. They believe these qualities are vital to finding a political solution as one unified people.
MPM threw its support behind earlier statements from the Ao Senden and Ungma Senso Mungdang. The village leaders hope wisdom eventually prevails to settle the feud. They warn that such controversies must not distract from the larger goal of achieving lasting stability.
