Kohima: The Naga People’s Front (NPF) flatly rejected a proposal from former Chief Minister and Governor Dr. SC Jamir to impose President’s Rule in Nagaland. The party labeled the suggestion a thinly veiled attempt to install army rule over the region. It warned that such a move would only exacerbate the strain already caused by the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).
Party leaders took issue with Jamir’s recent public comments, specifically his claim that the NPF Secretary General acts for outside masters. The NPF dismissed his remarks about the Secretary General’s political background in Hebron, Manipur, or Kohima as baseless. It stated that these sweeping claims are unbecoming of a man of his standing.
The NPF insists that political disagreements require facts, not personal insults. The party issued a statement: "In a democracy, divergence of views is natural and welcome. However, such divergence must be addressed through political reasoning and facts, not through personal insinuations."
According to the NPF, Jamir’s historical arguments fail to justify the current necessity for central intervention. They argue the Naga political issue is too delicate to be turned into a petty, personal squabble. The party remains focused on securing an inclusive, lasting peace settlement. They warned that any new deal must avoid becoming a future source of conflict for the Naga people.

The NPF clarified that its Secretary General speaks with total sincerity on the Naga issue both inside and outside the Assembly. They flatly denied that the official requires political training or guidance from any specific location or organization, dismissing those claims as total fabrications.
Party leadership emphasized that any political settlement must do more than just exist on paper. They warned that a deal must not become a failed agreement that splits the public or acts as a seed for future conflict.
