Two Schoolgirls Found Dead in Assam Tea Garden Pond

Guwahati: Two schoolgirls were found dead in a pond at the Lalkura Tea Garden in Assam's Kokrajhar district on May 21. The discovery of the bodies has sparked widespread concern and tension throughout the local Dholmara area.

The victims were identified as 15-year-old Anamika Bara, a ninth-grade student, and 14-year-old Charita Lakra, who was in the eighth grade. Both girls attended Dholmara High School. According to neighbors, the students went missing shortly after returning home from classes at 10 am. Their bodies were discovered in the water approximately three hours later.

Police arrived at the scene and recovered the girls' bicycles and sandals from the edge of the pond. The bodies were subsequently transported to Kokrajhar Medical College to undergo post-mortem examinations. While the cause of death remains unconfirmed, investigators are currently working to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Local residents and members of student organizations, including the All Assam Adivasi Students' Association, have called for a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Law enforcement officials are maintaining a presence in the area as the inquiry continues.
