Guwahati: Two people were killed and several others injured after a herd of wild elephants rampaged through villages in Assam's Nagaon district early on May 30. The victims, identified as Chahaj Uddin and Hanufa Khatun, died after being trampled when the animals entered human settlements in Kandapara and Ranglubasti.

Family members reported that Khatun was dragged from her home by an elephant before the fatal attack. The herd moved through multiple localities throughout the night, damaging property and creating widespread panic among local residents. While several others sustained serious injuries during the chaos, the exact number of wounded people remains under investigation.

Personnel from the Kampur Range Forest Office and local authorities are currently monitoring the area to assess the extent of the damage. This tragedy has reignited community concerns regarding the rising frequency of human-elephant conflicts in the region. Officials continue to evaluate the situation as residents recover from the night of destruction.
