Shillong: Police arrested two suspects following the fatal drug overdose of a 16-year-old boy in Shillong. Ralph Nongrum and Rita Kharshiing now face charges in the teenager's death. Investigators moved on the pair after forensic analysis and gathered evidence linked them to the crime.
The boy from Motinagar died back in March. Someone found him unconscious near Umpling Bridge on March 31. A 108 ambulance rushed him to Bethany Hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. The tragic discovery triggered a full-scale police probe.
Authorities conducted rigorous toxicology and forensic examinations to confirm the cause of death. Officials stated that "forensic analysis and other evidence gathered during the investigation helped investigators narrow down the case to Nongrum and Kharshiing." The court recently saw both defendants as police work continues to map out their specific roles in the fatal overdose.
