Two Arrested After Failed Abduction Attempt in Assam

Guwahati: Two men are in police custody following a failed abduction attempt of a schoolgirl in Assam’s Nalbari district on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred at Laodal Chowk near National Highway 27 as the student was traveling to school.

Local residents and the girl’s guardians intervened after witnessing the attempted kidnapping. The crowd successfully detained the two suspects, identified as Jahidul Ali and Vivek Gupta, before handing them over to Nalbari Police. Tensions rose at the scene as bystanders assaulted the men, but officers arrived to secure the suspects and transport them to safety.

The accused are currently receiving medical care while in police custody. Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter and promised strict legal action against those involved. Addressing the community reaction, police stated that they “would be taken against those found guilty following the completion of the investigation” and commended the role of local vigilance in protecting the student.
