Kohima: Six villages in the Sangyochung cluster met with forest officials in Tuensang on July 8 to coordinate land management efforts. The gathering, hosted by the Tuensang Forest Division under the Forest and Biodiversity Management in the Himalaya project, focused on forming a joint committee to oversee conserved areas.
Local leaders from Hak, Nakshou, Yali, Lokhung, Momching, and Saoshou villages sat down with project staff. They hammered out the rules for a unified conservation strategy. The group plans to share the burden of protecting biodiversity across neighboring borders.
Dr. Prabhat Kumar opened the session at his office. Finance manager Sichola led the proceedings while Range Officer Menya Wongto handled moderation. The project aims to strengthen local governance through formal institutional connectivity.
The agency confirmed the objective is a shift toward unified management. The press release noted the meeting "brought together key stakeholders including the CCA chairman, CCA secretaries, Village Council chairmen of Hak, Nakshou, Yali, Lokhung, Momching and Saoshou villages, along with officials from the Tuensang Forest Range and Tuensang Division." These villages now aim to treat their land as one linked territory to stop habitat loss.
