Truck collision kills scooty rider on Sikkim highway

Gangtok: Fug Dorjee Sherpa died Saturday afternoon after a tipper truck smashed into his scooty. The crash happened on National Highway 10 near Sangkhola. Sherpa was 43.

The truck, registered as SK 08D-0129, hit the victim at 2:30 pm while both vehicles moved toward Ranipool. Lance Naik Krishna Bahadur Chettri reached the scene five minutes later. He found the Pakyong district resident bleeding on the road near his wreckage.

Witnesses helped move Sherpa to the hospital in Singtam. Doctors sent him to New STNM Hospital in Gangtok for emergency care. He died there. His body now rests in the mortuary pending a formal inquest.

Police arrested 31-year-old Neel Kumar Poudyal at the scene. They booked the Ahoo Yangtam man under FIR No. 24(06)2026 for violations of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities are still probing the wreck. "Police said the investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the fatal collision."
