Agartala: The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council has drafted a tentative schedule for the upcoming Village Committee elections. If the proposed timeline holds, polling will take place on September 27, 2026, marking a major effort to restore grassroots governance after years of delays.

The electoral process will officially begin with an election notification, triggering an eight-day window for nominations from September 1 to September 8. Officials plan to hold the scrutiny of papers and allow for candidate withdrawals between September 9 and September 11. Once the field is set, contenders will have 15 days to campaign before the vote occurs.

Authorities have accounted for potential disruptions by setting aside two days for repolling, with these adjustments slated for completion by October 1. Vote counting is currently set for October 3. The election cycle will culminate in a final notification on October 5, 2026. This schedule is considered a significant step toward restoring democratic processes, as the elections have "remained pending for several years, making this a significant step towards restoring grassroots democratic governance in the ADC areas."
