Agartala: Tripura Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman met with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi on Tuesday to advocate for the advancement of the state's academic sector. The delegation requested central support to address administrative hurdles, including affiliation issues for new government colleges under Maharaja Bir Bikram University.
The state officials also sought assistance to fill key leadership roles, specifically requesting a government representative for the State Higher Education Council and the appointment of a permanent Vice-Chancellor for Tripura University. During the discussion, Pradhan addressed the leadership vacancy, noting that he "assured an early appointment."
A primary focus of the meeting was enhancing student employability by integrating vocational and skill-based courses into the curriculum. These programs are planned in partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur to better align state education with the goals of the National Education Policy 2020. The state additionally requested federal funding to establish two new universities and four degree colleges.
In response to these proposals, the Union Minister initiated a high-level committee to develop a strategic roadmap. This project intends to grow student enrollment and foster inclusive learning, with the long-term goal of transforming Tripura into a prominent educational hub by 2047.
