Tripura Reports Significant Rise in Women’s Workforce Participation

Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced a significant increase in the state’s female labour force participation rate, which reached 45.9 percent in 2025. This marks a rise of 8.4 percentage points from the 37.5 percent recorded in 2022. Speaking at the 11th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog, Saha credited this growth to targeted efforts in economic empowerment, education, and skill development.

The state government has focused heavily on self-help groups, with nearly 4.96 lakh rural women participating in 55,676 groups. Through the Samriddhi Campaign, the administration has improved credit access for women-led businesses and is working to incorporate micro-enterprises into the formal MSME sector. Additionally, the government launched the Tripura Women Entrepreneurship Policy 2025 and established dedicated skills centres in industrial institutes to foster business growth. Saha noted that the state has also taken steps to facilitate women’s participation in night-shift employment with appropriate safety measures.

During the meeting focused on the theme "Human Capital for Viksit Bharat," Saha shared that the state’s Gross State Domestic Product has doubled over the last six years. He emphasized that Tripura is aligning with national goals through its own long-term vision titled Lakshya 2047.

Broad development efforts extend to education and healthcare as well. Initiatives such as Mission Mukul and the implementation of smart classrooms are modernizing schools, while the PM SHRI scheme is upgrading 84 facilities. In the healthcare sector, the Poshan Tracker initiative has reached over three lakh beneficiaries. Looking ahead, the Chief Minister confirmed the state has secured investment proposals exceeding Rs 30,000 crore, with more than Rs 8,000 crore in projects currently underway.
