Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha opened the 50-bed Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Agartala Civil Hospital on July 12. The facility marks a move toward a fully paperless health system. It cost the government Rs 20.37 crore to build.

Saha said the project addresses the state's historical struggle with decaying medical infrastructure. Broken furniture and outdated equipment are out. Modern technology is in. The hospital includes oxygen-supported beds, an on-site oxygen plant, and an effluent treatment plant.

Patients can access ENT, medicine, gynecology, and surgical services under one roof. The facility aims to eliminate the need for emergency travel. "We have started this as a pilot project," Saha stated. "We have seen how the condition of government hospitals was with broken chairs, tables, and other facilities, and now we have come out of such a situation."

The state government plans to expand this model to all municipal and Nagar Panchayat areas if the pilot proves successful. Officials report that referral cases in Tripura have already dropped by 83 percent. The state is currently performing complex procedures like kidney transplants and expects to begin heart and liver transplant programs soon.
