Agartala: Tripura is failing to spend its development money. Official data from the Empowered India platform shows the state has only used 22.78 percent of its allocated MPLAD funds. That totals roughly Rs 9.5 crore out of the Rs 41.7 crore available to the state's three members of parliament.
The numbers look bleak. Lawmakers recommended nearly 100 projects across Tripura, but only one is finished. The state now ranks 22nd out of 36 states and Union Territories in fund performance. Meanwhile, the national average tells a different story. Nationally, the scheme shows a 74 percent utilisation rate with 4,413 projects completed.
Individual records vary, but progress remains stalled. East Tripura Lok Sabha member Kriti Devi Debbarman sits at the bottom of the list. She spent only Rs 1.9 crore of her Rs 14.7 crore allocation. She recommended 49 projects, but "none of which have been completed."
West Tripura MP Biplab Kumar Deb spent Rs 4.6 crore of his Rs 14.7 crore budget. He pushed 29 projects, yet finished zero. Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee is the lone exception. He managed to finish one project after spending Rs 3.5 crore of his Rs 12.3 crore allocation.
