Agartala: The Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission is turning rural women into business owners. The state-run program links Self Help Group members with capital and training. It works. The initiative aims to build sustainable ventures and local jobs.
Swarnali Paul runs a fabrication, interior printing, and mattress business in North Tripura. She belongs to the Perona Self Help Group under the Jubarajnagar Block Mission Management Unit. Support from the mission fueled her expansion. She secured Rs. 9.95 lakh in Community-Based Organisation funding plus Rs. 15 lakh in bank credit. Her shop now supports three other workers. It brings in roughly Rs. 95,000 to Rs. 1 lakh every month.
Down in Sepahijala district, Bina Rani Sarkar leads the Mangal Deep Self Help Group. She used the Mohanbhog Block Mission Management Unit to grow her bakery and confectionery shop. She pulled in Rs. 40,000 from the mission and Rs. 8.98 lakh in bank credit. Her success mirrors Paul's work. She employs three fellow members and nets between Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 1.5 lakh monthly.
Officials cite these cases as evidence of the mission's reach. They claim the program boosts household incomes and builds local self-reliance. As one official stated, "these success stories are the shining examples of impact of the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission in strengthening rural livelihoods through financial inclusion, institutional support, and entrepreneurship promotion."
