Tripura Man Sentenced to Five Years for Narcotic Drugs Offenses

Agartala: A District and Sessions Court in Tripura's Khowai district has sentenced a local man to five years of rigorous imprisonment for drug-related crimes. Dipankar Das, a resident of Lalchara, was convicted under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act following a case registered at the Khowai Police Station in 2023.

District and Sessions Judge Khowai delivered the verdict on June 5. The court found Das guilty under Section 21(b) read with Sections 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act. In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a fine of Rs 50,000. Failure to pay this penalty will result in an additional year of imprisonment.

The investigation was led by Sub-Inspector Ranjit Sarkar, who submitted the formal chargesheet on March 31, 2024. Regarding the outcome, Tripura Police stated that the conviction reflects their "continued efforts to secure convictions in narcotics-related offences through investigation and prosecution."
