Agartala: Tripura’s Animal Resource Development Minister Sudhangshu Das inaugurated a new liquid nitrogen plant at RK Nagar in West Tripura, describing the development as a “historic milestone” for the state’s livestock industry. The facility, managed by the Tripura Livestock Development Agency, marks a transition away from the costly practice of importing liquid nitrogen to preserve artificial insemination straws and vaccines.
By producing the coolant locally, the department expects to slash expenses, eliminate supply chain wastage, and ensure consistent availability for breeding programs. Minister Das announced that this is the first of three planned facilities, with future plants scheduled for Udaipur and North Tripura. These combined efforts will eventually allow the state to generate a surplus that can support other regional departments.
The government is currently prioritizing a range of initiatives to modernize the rural economy, including heifer distribution, calf nutrition schemes, and expanded support for poultry, piggery, and duck farming. These programs aim to improve agricultural productivity and move the state closer to the goal of self-reliance. Officials at the event emphasized that these infrastructure investments are central to the department’s mission of supporting local farmers and enhancing statewide livestock output.
