Agartala: Tripura Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman kicked off a five-year plan on July 6 to overhaul rural life through the VB GRAMG scheme. The program officially started July 1 across the country. It targets major improvements in villages by expanding work opportunities and streamlining local governance.

The state boosted job quotas to 125 days, up from the previous 100-day limit. Workers now earn a fixed daily wage of 300 rupees. The project authorizes 318 distinct types of labor for local communities. Barman spoke at a workshop in Agartala, where he stressed that success depends on teamwork between Zila Parishad, Panchayat Samiti, and government staff.

Tripura boasts a strong record in local administration. The state secured seven national awards for its three-tier Panchayat system, including three this year. Officials claim 80 percent of the state's Panchayats currently lead the pack in performance.

Barman emphasized that public service remains the top priority. He noted: "Dr. Mukherjee said that service should be the main basis of governance." The minister urged representatives to show honesty and transparency while supporting women, farmers, and marginalized groups.
