Agartala: The Tripura Human Rights Commission ordered the state Revenue Department to probe misconduct allegations against the Directorate of Land Records and Settlement. Justice Arindam Lodh issued the interim order after lawyer Uttam Das claimed officials acted aggressively during a July 1 hearing. The department must submit a formal report before the next hearing scheduled for July 28, 2026.

Das filed an RTI application on April 2 but waited months for a partial response. When he questioned the delay and cited penalty provisions, the State Public Information Officer allegedly turned hostile. According to the complaint, the official claimed Das was breaching decorum and wasting time. A dealing assistant reportedly mocked the process, telling the advocate that "even if a complaint was made to the Human Rights Commission, nothing would happen."

The complaint details a scene of official intimidation. The First Appellate Authority stood by as the Information Officer allegedly stormed out of the room before the hearing ended. Das also claims the department is burying records linked to land conversion. The Commission demands a full accounting of these claims.
