Agartala: A vacation bench of the Tripura High Court granted anticipatory bail to five individuals accused of abetting the suicide of BJP leader Rahul Kishore Roy. Justice Biswajit Palit presided over the bench that approved the pre-arrest bail pleas for Manoj Purakayastha, Pranbal Kanti Dey, Hirak Jyoti Nath, Saroj Deb, and Abhijit Das.

Sankar Lodh, the advocate representing the accused, confirmed the legal outcome following proceedings held on June 11. He stated, "The hearing was conducted on June 11, and the court has allowed the application."

Roy was discovered dead at his home in Dharmanagar shortly after the announcement of local by-election results. His wife, Ananya Bhattacharjee, subsequently filed an FIR against the group. She alleged that the men visited their residence twice on the day of the election results to threaten her family. According to the complaint, the group returned during the early hours of the morning to engage in aggressive behavior and verbal abuse, which she claims directly pressured her husband to take his own life.

The police investigation into the death remains active. Authorities have already taken one individual into custody in connection with the ongoing case.
