Agartala: Tripura State Health Secretary Kiran Gitte conducted a surprise inspection of the North Tripura District Hospital in Dharmanagar on Saturday. The visit followed a series of public complaints regarding the quality of care and the facility's general operation.

Gitte toured several departments, including the emergency unit, indoor wards, and the Outpatient Department. He also met with hospital leadership, doctors, and District Magistrate Chandni Chandran to address reported issues. Patients had previously raised concerns about long wait times, poor hygiene, a lack of potable water, and the outsourcing of blood tests to private labs.

Speaking to reporters after the tour, Gitte reaffirmed the government's focus on healthcare. He stated, "The government's commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery" remains a top priority, and he ordered the District Magistrate to resolve all identified shortcomings immediately.

To bolster regional services, Gitte announced plans for a new Sub-Divisional Hospital in Dharmanagar and upgrades to the current district facility. These improvements will include an Intensive Coronary Care Unit, a trauma center, and an expansion of specialized medical offerings. The hospital has already opened a Cancer Day Care Centre. Following the Dharmanagar site visit, Gitte continued his oversight efforts by traveling to the Unakoti District Hospital.
