Agartala: The Tripura government has introduced a new administrative schedule, declaring all Saturdays as holidays for state employees. To maintain service levels, daily office hours have been extended, with government offices now operating from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. between Monday and Friday. This replaces the previous system where offices operated from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and only the second and fourth Saturdays were off.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha stated that the change aligns the state with practices at the Central Secretariat in New Delhi. He emphasized that the additional weekday hour ensures public services remain consistent despite the complete closure of offices on weekends.

Speaking on the reform, Dr. Saha said, "Government workers across all states, including Tripura, deserve time to spend with their families, pursue hobbies and focus on personal growth." He added that the shift is intended to boost employee morale and productivity while modernizing public administration.

The government expects that providing a consistent two-day weekend will reduce work-related stress and help staff manage personal commitments. The new policy is effective immediately and has been welcomed by employees as a significant improvement to their quality of life.
