Agartala: The Tripura Pradesh Congress has issued a stern warning regarding the state's internal stability, suggesting that the region faces a risk of descending into a crisis similar to the unrest seen in Manipur. During a press conference at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan in Agartala, party spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty alleged that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally, the TIPRA Motha Party, are actively orchestrating ethnic polarization to consolidate political power ahead of the upcoming Village Council elections.
Chakraborty claimed that recent interactions between high-level leadership and the visit of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat to the state are components of a broader, pre-designed roadmap aimed at the 2028 assembly elections. According to the Congress, the two governing partners have engaged in a staged conflict to distract the public from systemic issues, including widespread unemployment, government corruption, and a breakdown in law and order.
The Congress spokesperson specifically highlighted concerns over recent violence, such as the arson incident involving a TIPRA Motha youth leader’s vehicle in Mandwi. He criticized the local administration for perceived police inaction, noting that law enforcement officers attempting to maintain order have faced aggression without significant repercussions for the perpetrators. The party argues that these manufactured tensions disproportionately impact vulnerable tribal communities.
