Guwahati: The National Highways Authority of India is under fire in Kaliabor. New road signs meant to guide commuters are riddled with errors. Local language advocates are furious. The Kaliabor branch of the Asam Sahitya Sabha blasted the agency for distorting Assamese on these official highway boards.
These mistakes appeared between Kaliabor Tiniali and Amoni. The group says the authority showed total negligence toward the local language. They want the signs swapped out immediately for ones that use correct spelling. The group made their stance clear on the sloppy work.
"The use of incorrect Assamese on official public signboards was unacceptable," the organization stated. They are pushing for a quick fix to the problem. If the NHAI ignores the demand, the Nagaon district unit of the Asam Sahitya Sabha promised to take further action.
